Issue with SharePoint Foundation 2011 SP1

Filed under: Backups, SBS 2011, Sharepoint — solutionsthroughit @ 10:16

From this post, I found the solution to an issue with native SBS backups failing to run after applying the SharePoint SP1.  Effectively you need to :

  • Launch an elevated (Run as Administrator) SharePoint 2010 Management shell from start, All Programs, Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products, SharePoint 2010 Management Shell.
  • Once the shell opens, type the following command followed by enter:
    (get-spserver $env:computername).NeedsUpgrade

If you get a response back of “True” then you’ll need to:

  • Open an Administrative command prompt.
  • Change directory to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN
  • Run PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures

This has typically taken 10-15 minutes (grab a coffee).  Note: this will stop companyweb/SharePoint sites from functioning whilst this is being upgraded.
