Dell Precision M6500 – First Impressions

Filed under: Computers and Internet — solutionsthroughit @ 21:18

Received the notebook, and was initially very impressed.  large 17” widescreen display, full keyboard (slightly squishy cursor keys / different layout for home/insert etc).  Ran the Windows Performance test – looks nice!

Booted the system, seemed responsive, although not as quick as I’d imagined 😦

on a full charge with full brightness, the battery meter indicates a mere 2 hours of charge, something that will have to be monitored – as with a 210 Watt power supply, it’s NOT going to be something that can be charged in the car (without purchasing a REALLY expensive inverter!).

System is fast when using it, very responsive and has a generally solid feel to it.  quick, quiet, and not too much heat being generated, although it hasn’t really been stressed yet.

Build quality is really less than desirable.  the palm rest “clicks” with the plastic palm rest being very flexible, and there’s a slight defect (“wobble” ?? in the screen).

More to come!
