Part Three: Configuring DHCP

This page shows the concise method for setting up the DHCP options.  However, here’s the pretty picture version 🙂

Open the DHCP console, and right click your server, and select Set Predefined Options.

Click the Add button and then configure the following options: Name = WPAD, Data type = String, Code = 252, Description = URL of your wpad.dat file.  This can be numerical or a DNS name (as long as the DNS server’s that you’ve specified on the DHCP server can resolve it!)

Restart your DHCP server, renew your DHCP lease, and you should be transparently using your proxy server!  It would be prudent to do some testing first – http://www.whatismyip.ro/ will give you information regarding your proxy / IP etc.  There will be other sites out there that do this, but you’ll have to google them yourself.
